The Neighborhood Council Review Commission (NCRC) is an independent group of 29 volunteers appointed by the Mayor and City Council to review L.A.’s system of neighborhood councils, and to make recommendations for improvement. After a year of study, we’ve come up with a plan that we’ll take to city leaders in the fall. But we’re still weighing the issues – and seeking your input.

Since July 2006, we’ve been holding public hearings, conducting surveys, doing research and tapping ideas from experts. The intent is to determine the best structure for NCs in Los Angeles – looking ahead not only to the next seven years, but many years after that.

We have met with hundreds of people from around the city – and we continue to meet many more. In recent weeks, we held a series of seven public workshops that drew hundreds of Angelenos – and praise for the interactive format. We are now distilling the comments we’ve received, and we’ll finalize our recommendations in the coming weeks. Once we’re finished, we’ll make a full report to our elected leaders in September 2007.

Remember: the NC system is designed to promote resident participation in government and to make government more responsive to local needs. Help us figure out how well the system is working – and how it can be even better.
